First Coffee Institute eyed in Benguet
The Department of Tourism-Cordillera Administrative Region is eyeing La Trinidad as the site of the country’s first Coffee Institute.
Sunstar reported that the DOT has already asked the provincial and municipal governments to support a proposal that is being studied by Henry & Sons, the largest coffee solutions company in the Philippines.
DOT-CAR regional director Marie Venus Tan said coffee from the Cordilleras has already made its mark as a world-class coffee.
Last month, the first shared service facility project for Arabica coffee post-harvest processing and cupping laboratory in the country was set up at the Benguet State University in La Trinidad.
Benguet and the Mountain Province are best known for their Arabica coffee while Kalinga is better known for the robusta variety.
