Iloilo City eyes agri waste processing center
Iloilo City is planning to set up a processing center in its markets to process waste from agriculture produce, like vegetables.
The Philippine News Agency reported that proposal for the processing center was incorporated in the program of assistance for the city by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) under its Project SURGE (Strengthening Urban Resilience for Growth and Equity).
The Iloilo Terminal Market, the hub for agricultural products from Baguio, Benguet, Kanlaon in Negros Occidental, and Leon in Iloilo, is being considered for the processing center.
The city said the facility would prevent discarded vegetables from rotting in the market. Such projects are used to generate organic fertilizers.
