Mindanao beats other regions in hunger report
Hunger worsened in most geographical areas in the country except in Mindanao, where the reading fell by 5.7 percentage points to 13.3 percent in June from 19.0 percent in April, according to the results of the second quarter 2016 survey of the Social Weather Stations (SWS).
This means there were only 687,000 families who experienced hunger in June in Mindanao as against an estimated 978,000 families in April, according to the results of the second quarter 2016 survey of the Social Weather Stations (SWS).
Nationwide, the survey showed those who experienced involuntary hunger at least once in the second quarter grew to 3.4 million families from the 3.1 million estimated in the April survey, as the overall hunger rate edged up to 15.2 percent from 13.7 percent.
