Negros Oriental implements massive coconut
Massive coconut replanting is being implemented in Negros Oriental following a slump in the production of coconuts as a result of the long drought.
A report by BusinessMirror said that the Philippine Coconut Authority provincial office of Negros Oriental has distributed more than 30,000 seed nuts all over the province for the past six months this year. The provincial PCA office is also expecting the arrival of additional 20,000 seedlings.
At present, there are still about 11 million coconut trees all over the province planted to more than 92,278 hectares of land.
About 10 percent to 15 percent of coconut trees are cut annually for use in the construction business and for other purposes, including those cut without permits replanting.
