Piñol warns public vs con artist posing as him to extort money
Agriculture Secretary Manny Piñol today warned the public against a con artist posing as him and demanding money.
In a post on his Facebook page, Piñol said he has received information that a man claiming to be him has been calling up people who have transactions with the Department of Agriculture and demanding money from them in exchange for contracts.
“I am advising the public, especially those who have transactions with the Dept. of Agriculture that I have not and will never ask for money from those who do business with the DA,” Piñol said as he appealed to people to report such incidents to him on his Facebook account MannyPiñol or through 09177972871. He also asked the public to save the number from which they receive such calls so that it can be monitored.
According to Piñol, a cacao nursery operator gave P30,000 to a man who sounded like him through money transfer and that a businessman from Batangas was also asked to transfer P200,000 to a bank account.
Piñol said he has given the information he has received to Philippine National Police chief Ronald de la Rosa so that the PNP’s intelligence group.
