Sustainable aquaculture, highlighted in forum in Lubao
To be able to encourage productivity of sustainable aquaculture, the Provincial Government of Pampanga and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Region worked with a thousand fishpond operators at a forum held last August 26.
In a report by Sun Star, fishpond management, fish farming, and good aquaculture practices were emphasized in the event called “Forum on Food Security and Sustainable Aquaculture for Fishpond Operators” took place at the Pineda Sports Complex of Lubao.
BFAR experts also discussed to fishpond operators topics on Tilapia culture and its status within the Central Luzon fish industry.
Fisherfolks in the region were lauded by Governor Lilia Pineda for their hard work upon hearing that Pampanga is now the first in rank in Tilapia production all over the country. She added that constant support will be given to the fishpond operators and fish farmers and in Lubao which is now over 5,000 in totality.
Eduardo Gongona, Department of Agriculture (DA) Undersecretary for Fisheries and BFAR National Director, on the other hand, highlighted the significance of aquaculture to the production of the country’s over-all fisheries.
“As one of the primary sources of fish in the country, aquaculture remains a top performer in the fisheries sector and provides livelihood to thousands of Filipinos,” he said.
