Vegan athletes perform better than rivals
American athletes with success records in their respective fields have one thing in common: they were powered by plant foods.
Dr. Neal D. Barnard of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine was quoted in report by Philippine Daily Inquirer that tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams, beach volleyball’s gold medal favorite April Ross, and weightlifter Kendrick Farris shunned animal foods.
“More and more athletes are finding that a plant-based diet can easily provide all of the necessary vitamins, minerals, and yes even protein to fuel a medal-winning performance,” Barnard said in his blog.
Barnard also mentioned Australian sprinter Morgan Mitchell, who made to switch to a vegan diet two years she made the trip to the Olympics in Rio de Janiero.
