New locust infestation threatens Cebu town
A new batch of locusts is threatening the next cropping season in Bantayan town in Cebu more than two months after a swarm of locusts infested 2,000 hectares of farmland in the same town.
Sunstar, quoting municipal agriculturist Alex Fernandez, reported that a new batch of hoppers has started producing offspring and need to be eradicated so that farmers could plant in the next cropping season.
Fernandez was reported as saying that the time is perfect to spray pesticides while the young hoppers have not grown their wings.
He said volunteers are currently using green label spray so as not to farm the water system of the island town.
