9th National Coffee Summit kicks off in Davao City
Despite the increasing popularity of coffee among consumers, the Philippine coffee industry is on the decline.
In the 9th National Coffee Summit which Davao City is hosting from October 12 to 13 hopes, participants hope to look into its problems and find solutions to address the issues hounding the industry.
Philippine coffee production has been on the decline for the past couple of years. In the first half of this year, production went down by five percent to 30,290 metric tons from 32,040 metric tons in the same period last year. While lower supply should result in an increase in prices, it hasn’t.
According to the Philippine Statistics Authority, the price of coffee declined by almost eight percent in the local market and the value of coffee production falling by over five percent.
The 9th National Coffee Summit will be held at the SMX Convention Center in Bajada, Lanang, Davao City.
