Karen damages P572M in crops, livestock

Typhoon Karen damaged P572.84 million worth of crops in two regions alone, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported.

The NDRRMC report said Karen damaged P333,850,364.38 worth of rice, P202,505,809.03 in high value crops, and P36,474,340 in corn in the Bicol Region and in Benguet in the Cordillera Administrative Region.

A loss of P10,000 in livestock was also incurred in Catanduanes.

Hardest hit was Camarines Sur, with P419,392,834.84 worth of damaged crops. It reportedly incurred P248.97 million losses in terms of rice, P28.81 million in corn and P141.61 million in high value crops.

The other affected provinces and their incurred losses were: Albay (P68.15 million); Sorsogon (P59.22 million); Catanduanes (P22.95 million); Camarines Norte (P1.98 million); and Benguet (P1.15 million).
