P2.6B Pangasinan irrigation project operational in 2017
The P2.6-billion irrigation project for 12,000 hectares in Pangasinan will be operational in 2017.
The Ilocos Times, quoting Engr. Ceferino Sta. Ana of the Agno River Irrigation System Extension Project (ARISEP), reported that the project will benefit more than 10,000 farmers in terms of increased crop yield.
Sta. Ana said the physical targets for the project, including right-of-way acquisition, are on target even if work on the Agno River Irrigation System (ARIS) is down to 16.62 percent due to typhoons and monsoons.
The project, which involves the construction of 242 kilometers of irrigation canals, is also expected to generate more jobs and services.
He said farmers’ income is expected to almost double from P29,000 per hectare per cropping to P47,520 because of the new irrigation facilities.
