Pangilinan wants task force vs manipulation of rice prices
Sen. Francis Pangilinan called for the creation of an inter-agency task force against the manipulation of rice prices, following the reported rampant manipulation of the buying price of palay.
The reports said palay could be bought for as low as P13 from a high of P18, with traders claiming that a certain farmer’s palay is not dry or that they do not have a warehouse for storage.
Pangilinan said the task force could be composed of the National Food Authority, the National Bureau of Investigation, and the Department of Agriculture.
“I see this as a matter where we need to intervene. Dapat mayroong matatakbuhan ang ating mga farmers,” he said.
Pangilinan, chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Food, requested for additional information to serve as guidance if there is a need for a separate Senate hearing on the issue.
