PCA ties up with Germany for sustainable certified coconut oil
The Philippine Coconut Authority has tied up with Germany’s Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit for a capacity building exercise to increase farmers’ income through a sustainable certified coconut oil supply chain.
In a statement, the Agricultural Training Institute said the initiative is under Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and involves private sector participation. The ATI said it also involves Cargill, Baden Aniline and Soda Factory, and Procter and Gamble.
The project trains trainers such as coconut development officers and agricultural extension officers so that they can train local coconut farmers on good agricultural practices, farm diversification, and farming as a business.
The priority areas for the project are Visayas and Mindanao.
The proposed training curriculum involves coconut farming as a business, good agricultural management of coconut, and organizational development.
