Reduce excise tax on champagne, sparkling wine — ECCP
European businessmen are asking government to review the current excise tax on champagne and sparkling wines.
This was listed as among the recommendations of the EU Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP) in the EU-Philippines Business Network second edition Advocacy Papers unveiled Tuesday at the Makati Shangrila.
EU businessmen have called for the review in taxes to align with the fixed excise tax levels on other alcoholic beverages and prevent smuggling and unfair competition.
The fixed excise tax per liter on champagne and sparkling wine for 2016 is P787.40, compred to P33.75 for non-sparkling wine and P20.80 for spirits.
EU businessmen said this is a barrier to trade for EU industry, which is the world leader in that market segment.
