The brand have won the internet over the past few days, but we’ve heard of a brewing claim that the fast food giant’s Valentine’s Day video ad allegedly drew inspiration from a digital video from Lemon Square’s Cookie Says.
Anyone who works in the advertising industry definitely knows that there’s no shortage of these controversies. In this case, Jollibee’s three part webisodes featuring stories of love which have marked 11 million view record, drew flak on social media with its alleged uncanny resemblance with Cookie Says video campaign.
The Lemon Square video, which aired 5 months ago, features a cute story of a guy who persistently leaves secret sticky notes and Cookie Says to a girl he likes.
Months later, Jollibee released a video entitled “Crush”, featuring a guy who left sticky notes along with a Yum! Burger to express his hidden affection for the girl. The Facebook video has been viewed 9 million as of posting with almost 600 thousand reactions.
Similarities between the two video ads include the school setting, the locker scene, book-dropping and the sticky notes concept were noted by netizens.
