Cash and Carry: The pot of gold at the end of the rainbow
Cash and Carry along Osmeña Highway has been known to be the place to go to for what our parents called PX goods during the days of the Marcos dictatorship. I remember going out of my way to go there to get diapers when my daughter was growing up because it was the only place to get the nice pull ups back then.
My daughter is in college now and she now loves Cash and Carry just as much as I do.
We look at the Skyway as the rainbow and Cash and Carry is the pot of gold at the end of it. What can I say, it is my favorite mall. The first time I visited it after it was renovated, I told my friend that that was where I want to die, in between the Lindt and the Ferrero in one of the stores at the second floor. My friend looked at me as if I were deranged. I said that after passing by the different variants of Reese’s, Cadbury, Milka, Toblerone, and who knows what else.
If you have a craving for chocolate, this is the place to go. The prices are lower than what you’d find in groceries and the selection is far bigger than at Duty Free. When we have relatives coming over, we tell them not to bother with bringing in the chocolates for pasalubong because they can get them at Cash and Carry. They can use that baggage allowance for something else but they still don’t listen.
Chocolates are not all they have. They have other junk food like potato chips–Ruffles, Lays, among others–and Shneider’s Pretzel and a whole lot more. You really have to check it out for yourself. And if you think you will be overdosing yourself on chocolates, go grab yourself a bottle of cinnamon pills to regulate your blood sugar the natural way. They have a lot of those alternative/herbal pills here too.
Today, what jumped at me was the Ritter Sport that was on sale for only P85. The variants on sale were macadamia milk chocolate and dark chocolate with hazelnuts.
The shops regularly put items on sale when they are nearing expiration so visiting this mall once is fun. They also have factory outlets in the mall so if you’re not the glutton type, they will still have something for you. The nice thing about this mall is it is not the mall that people tend to hang out in. They get in, get their stuff, and leave so parking is not as stressful as in other malls.
