Two-toned corn out in the market soon
Filipinos will soon see to more than just yellow or white corn varieties.
The Manila Bulletin reported that seed companies are introducing purple corn and a two-colored corn variety.
The purple corn will be introduced by Allied Botanical seed company.
The ancient variety planted by Peru Incas 4,000 years ago is supposed to have health benefits to consumers.
The white- and purple-kernel corn is a waxy type and good for boiling.
Varieties have been introduced by Allied Botanical which calls it Batik, and Ramgo which named its variety Violeta.
East-West also has its own two-colored waxy corn.
The report said more farmers are getting interested in waxy white corn which have higher yields and mature faster.
