Bataan farmers graduate from field school
A group of farmers on Tuesday graduated from their 16-week Palaycheck Farmers Field School and Integrated Techno Demo in this agricultural town.
Aside from lectures, they tended a 4,000-square meter demonstration farm in Barangay Ibaba here from land preparation to harvesting in close supervision by technicians of the municipal and provincial agriculture offices.
“The farmers were taught what kind and when to properly put fertilizer and how to respond against pests. Right technology is important to farming,” municipal agriculture officer Nora Medina said.
She said the farmers learned of proper farm management.
Samal Vice Mayor Aida Medina was impressed after inspecting the demo farm.
Medina asked that she be furnished data about it to guide the Sangguniang Bayan on how to help farmers in the town.
Ruben Matawaran, president of the farmers’ group, thanked agriculture officials for the field school.
“The most important thing that we learned is how to boost our yields. We learned the modern farming method that could help minimize our expenses,” he said. (PNA)
