Agriculture officials are validating the damage wrought by destructive bacterial leaf blight (BLB) and brown plant hoppers in Northern Samar and Eastern Samar.

Sunstar reported that the validation covers 4,000 hectares in rice farms and P140 million in reported damage.

The regional Department of Agriculture has validated at least P17.87 million in damage and 648.36 hectares of affected rice farms.

BLB has been attacking nine Northern Samar towns while plant hoppers have been affected seven Eastern Samar towns.

The infestation is not expected to affect rice harvests.
