Lavinia resigns as NIA chief
National Irrigation Administrator Peter Lavinia resigned amid allegations of irregularity to spare President Duterte from embarrassment.
In a Facebook post, Lavinia said rumors have been circulating that he asked money from NIA contractors. He said they were not true, and were only meant to discredit him.
“I have neither personal vested interest in it nor ill intent towards NIA and the whole government, which we are trying to reform,” he said.
He said he “never betrayed” Duterte.
Presidential spokesman Ernesto Abella said Duterte accepted Lavinia’s resignation “with regret.”
