DA readies rolling stores
Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol said government will use rolling stores to bring basic commodities to the homes of Filipinos, especially the far-flung areas.
Piñol said the rolling stores under the Duterte administration will be shiny modern trucks with freezers carrying basic food items such as rice, fish, pork, dressed chicken, beef and vegetables.
He said the new rolling stores will be dispatched to subdivisions and highly-populated areas of Metro Manila and the big urban centers.
He said they will carry vacuum-packed products from small farmers like pork, beef and chicken produced by backyard raisers, rice directly coming from rice farmers cooperatives, and fish catch of small fishermen.
“The Rolling Stores will be dispatched under the program Karne, Isda Supply sa Masa or KISS M, a direct marketing concept I thought of to virtually eliminate middlemen in the delivery of basic food supplies to the consumers,” he added.
Piñol said the rolling stores will deliver based on pre-orders so that the trucks will not just be running around the big cities peddling the goods.
He said sales and marketing agents will hand out leaflets indicating the goods which the rolling stores could deliver and the contact numbers of the control center.
He said the rolling stores are expected to radically lower the price of rice, meat and vegetables for the consumers and assure farmers and fishermen of access to the market.
