JC De Vera takes pride in Bicolano dish Pinangat

Burger joint owner and TV actor JC De Vera couldn’t help but feel proud of his hometown’s delectable staple dish, pinangat.

The actor took to Instagram his mom’s specialty hailing from Camalig, Albay and shared some culinary history to his followers.

“PINANGAT, popularly known in Manila as laing, is a specialty of my mom’s ancestral province, CAMALIG, ALBAY,
in the Bicol Region. We all grew up with this delectable dish and my own family is fond of it”, he said.

“I’m sure all Bicolanos who hail from Camalig have the same fondness to this “masiramon” ( very delicious ) dish.
PINANGAT is made of choice variety taro (gabi) leaves, fresh coconut milk, pork &/or fish and a rare variety of chili pepper (labuyo) cooked in traditional claypot & charred wood. This is eaten with steaming hot rice and you’re good!! Though you will find several stores selling pinangat in Camalig, this pinangat”, he added.

He added that the dish is more special, not only because it is home-made, but had been passed from one generation to another. Each serving comes “hot & spicy” but very appetizing.

Each serving comes “hot & spicy” but very appetizing. Watch out with the rice intake though 😛.
