PH coffee graded in the US
Philippine coffee varieties were cupped and graded by certified quality graders worldwide at the Global Specialty Coffee Expo hosted by the Specialty Coffee Association of America in Seattle, Washington on April 20-23.
Cupping is important for coffee farmers to know the right price and value of their coffee.
These included the winning Robusta and Arabica coffee varieties produced by Imelda Mendoza of Kape Maramag Association and Bai Adelina Tarino of Inhandig Tribal Multi-Purpose Cooperative, both coffee farmers from Bukidnon.
The cupping at the Global Coffee Expo is part of the campaign to introduce Philippine coffee to the world and to prepare coffee farmers to compete in the global market.
The Philippine embassy statement said the Coffee Quality Institute also showcased Philippine coffee in its booth and recognized the Bukidnon-based coffee farmers during its 19th annual luncheon.
The Philippine delegation will have the chance to understand the US coffee industry through the “Port-to-Cup Coffee Tour,” where they will visit facilities in Seattle, Washington and Portland, Oregon.
