Exporters send 500 kilos of carabao mangoes to UAE
A group of mango growers from Tulunan, North Cotabato recently shipped-out 500 kilograms or half a metric ton of carabao mangoes to Abu Dhabi in United Arab Emirates (UAE), a statement from the Department of Agriculture (DA) show.
It was Rickson Olimpus, president of Tulunan Mango and Fruit Growers’ Association, who disclosed to DA that 500 kilos of premium grade mangoes were indeed exported to Abu Dhabi early this month.
“This is our second shipment to Abu Dhabi after our trial shipment on May 22 where we sent 18 kilos,” Olimpus said.
At the send-off, the group was joined by personnel from the Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Division (AMAD) and High Value Crops Development Program (HVCDP) of DA 12.
Evelyn Jaruda of AMAD said that the recent shipment of mangoes was the result of the country’s participation to the International Food Expo (IFEX).
During the expo, Olimpus met Mildred Curato Remo, manager of Fresh Harvest Foodstuff Trading LLC from Abu Dhabi where they had talked on the possible export deal.
Together with the 500 kilos of mangoes bound for Abu Dhabi was another half metric ton of mangoes sent to Manila.
