Maynilad commits to plant 130,000 trees this year
West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) has committed to plant 130,000 trees this year in support of the government’s initiative to reforest six vital watersheds in the country including Umiray, Ipo, Angat, La Mesa, Marikina River, and Laguna Lake.
The pledge was made during the launch of the “Annual Million Trees Challenge” of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS).
Maynilad said it is tapping several employee-volunteers to plant indigenous trees at the Ipo watershed and around the vicinity of the seven tributary rivers of Laguna Lake.
The trees that will be planted in these areas include narra, cupang, kawayan, camachile and bangkal.
“Reforesting these areas will help to improve raw water quality and prevent calamities such as flooding brought on by soil erosion,” Maynilad said.
Maynilad is one of thirteen partners from the private and government sectors tapped by the MWSS for its “Annual Million Trees Challenge”.
