Agrarian Reform chief denies involvement with NPA attacks on banana farm
Department of Agrarian Reform Secretary Rafael Mariano denied playing a part in plotting the ambush at a banana farm in Davao City earlier this year.
“I categorically deny any direct involvement or participation in the planning of the incident that happened in Lapanday (Foods Corp.),” Mariano was quoted as saying before the Commission on Appointments.
The allegations were stated in a joint resolution by the Regional Peace and Order Council of Southern Mindanao in May.
According to Senate Majority Leader Vicente Sotto III, chairperson of the CA committee on agrarian reform, the resolution was signed by four governors, the chief of staff Gen. Eduardo Año, the secretary of national defense Delfin Lorenzana and by three to four mayors.
However, no copy of the said report was produced during the hearing.
