Duterte wants SRA abolished
President Rodrigo Duterte said he wants to abolish the state-run Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) for alleged corruption within the agency.
At the 26th Mindanao Business Conference and Expo, Duterte said he is planning to abolish several government agencies for being corrupt, which includes SRA.
Duterte particularly questioned the practices of SRA, hiring consultants and overpaying them.
- Created through Executive Order 18 dated May 28, 1986, SRA is mandated to promote the growth and development of the sugar industry through greater participation of the private sector and to improve the working conditions of the laborers.
It is a government-owned and controlled corporation under the Department of Agriculture.
