New SRA administrator appointed
Malacañang has appointed Hermenegildo Serafica as the new Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA), replacing former SRA chief Anna Rosario Paner, despite his alleged involvement in the hiring of overpaid consultant within the agency.
In an appointment letter signed today, the Office of the President formally appointed Serafica to takeover Paner’s position.
In an interview with Paner, she said that Duterte just approved her resignation letter yesterday almost a month after she filed it.
What’s making Serafica’s appointment more interesting is his involvement on the hiring of overpaid consultants that has earned the ire of Duterte.
Paner said the hiring of consultants for the project called Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Plan for the Sugarcane industry was all approved by the members of the SRA Board including Serafica and Roland Beltran, who were the ones who allegedly reported to Duterte about the contracts.
“This is also why I chose to break my silence because I have a reason to believe that the President was misinformed by the so-called whistle blowers which formed the basis of the president’s misgivings on SRA,” Paner said.
For his part, Piñol said he will ask Serafica to clear this issue.
