PH, France to explore potential cooperation in agri
The Philippine Department of Agriculture (DA) and France Ministry of Agriculture and Food will explore potential cooperation in the agriculture sector and will jointly discuss how the agriculture sector addresses the challenges of food security and farmers’ well-being amidst climate change.
“Throughout the year, several events highlighting the diversity of the France-Philippine friendship have been organized to mark this milestone, which continues with the organization of the Philippines-France Forum on Agriculture and the signature of a cooperation agreement between the Philippines’ Department of Agriculture and the France’s Ministry of Agriculture and Food,” a statement showed.
To be held next week, the Philippines-France Forum on Agriculture would serve as the occasion to enhance the promising framework of promoting sustainable agricultural practices and food diversity and quality through concrete leads and projects.
Despite the threat of climate change on food security, the growing scarcity of resources, the displacement of populations, and other major upheavals, solutions to these problems already exist and are continuously being developed by science and practice.
Indeed, agriculture and forestry, as well as animal husbandry, can positively contribute to the fight against climate change.
“Now more than ever, the dialogue between scientists and policymakers is necessary to discuss their concerns and reach socially and environmentally efficient agricultural policies. Meanwhile, several private actors are investing in the Philippines and are part of the innovation network, thus paving the way for the agricultural adaptation,” a statement from the DA said.
