PSA urges sets survey of aquaculture farms in Calabarzon to gather more accurate data

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) is set to survey fishing ponds and agriculture farms located in the Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) area from Oct. 2 to Nov. 29 this year to update the list of aquaculture farms in the country.

PSA-Calabarzon Regional Director Charito C. Armonia said Monday that the survey would update previous data and information under the auspices of the former Bureau of Agricultural Statistics, 2012 Census of Agriculture and Fisheries and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).

Armonia added that the Calabarzon survey would be supervised by Chief Benigno F. Perido of the Statistical Operations and Coordination Division (SOCD) of the PSA-Region IV-A (Calabarzon) regional office.

She said the new list would serve as a “sampling frame” or registry of persons engaged in the aquaculture or fish pond industry and their nature or descriptions for the conduct of the regular “Aquaculture Production Survey” of PSA every three months.

The 2017 Updated Listing of Aquaculture Farms (ULAF) would gather name and address of the operator, exact location and measurement of the fishing farms, type of the production process or culture system, system of operation or management system, and the variety of fishes being raised.

Armonia appealed to the public and the fishing sector for their cooperation and support for the listing and survey to ensure that the results were correct and reliable as the collected data and information would serve as basis for the research and the crafting of development plans for the aquaculture industry.

All information or data gathered from the survey or listing shall be treated confidential by the PSA. (PNA)
