Sugar forum set in Bacolod next week
Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol said the government will hold a Sugar Industry Stakeholders Forum next week in Bacolod City, an event which has long been awaited by the stakeholders.
This event will happen in light with the recent call of President Rodrigo Duterte to abolish Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) because of corruption.
The forum is expected to discuss the problems confronting the sugar industry such as low prices of sugar, slow delivery of interventions and Duterte’s call.
The Department of Agriculture, which supervises the SRA, is expected to draw out inputs from the stakeholders for the crafting of a 5-year Sugar Industry Development Road Map, which will steer the industry though the tough times it is facing today.
