Top chefs join hands with WWF to promote sustainable food initiatives
Eight of the country’s top chefs have partnered with WWF Philippines to hold a benefit dinner to support sustainable food initiatives.
The event, dubbed as Sustainable Food Sustainable Future, will be held at the Rizal Ballroom C at Makati Shangri La, at 6 pm on September 6 and feature delectable dishes from Chef Eric Weidmann of Sage, Chef Nicco Santos of Hey, Handsome, Chef Chele Gonzalez of Vask, Chef Patrick Go of Black Sheep, Chef
Sunshine Puey of Gourmandise, Chef Miko Aspiras of The Workshop, Chef Josh Boutwood of The Test Kitchen and Asia’s Best Female Chef of 2016 Gaita Fores of Grace Park.
The dishes prepared by these top chefs will highlight what can be done with locally sourced organic produce which also supports local industries and communities.
“We would like to emphasize that the footprint of the produce not only contributes to climate change and threaten our planet’s future but can also negatively affect the future of those who grow or produce our food, “WWF President and CEO Joel Palma said. “We want to make sure resources are protected and sustained so that they can continue to be the source of livelihood for generations to come.”
Palma also explained that the event seeks to promote the ripple effect that can happen from supporting local industries as well as sustainable food consumption and production.
He said that by looking at the big picture and analyzing how resources are used in growing food and understanding their impact on the environment and the comnnity, people are given a chance to see the actual potential of local products to be competitive. With this in mind, more opportunities will open for increased employment and reduced poverty.
This also benefits consumers since they will be at the receiving end of fresh and delicious food grown with less chemicals to promote a healthier lifestyle.
