DA gives P2M worth of grant during the 10th Bicol Organic Congress
The Department of Agriculture (DA) has pledged to give as much as P2 million worth of project grants during the 10th Bicol Organic Congress.
This, as the congress, which was attended by close to 700 organic agriculture producers, farmers, LGUs, and advocates from the academe, has proven that Bicol region is one of the most active regions in advancing organic agriculture in the Philippines.
The highlight of the congress was the awarding of the regional winners in various categories for this year’s Search for Outstanding Organic Agriculture Achievers Awards.
The province of Camarines Norte was awarded as regional outstanding province, a recognition that gave the province P500,000 worth of project grant, while Ligao City will get P300,000 worth of project grant for being the outstanding city in organic agriculture.
Meanwhile, Iriga City is set to get a project grant worth P150,000 for being the most promising local government unit (LGU).
A special citation was also awarded to the LGU of Albay for successfully implementing the five-year Albay Family Based Food Production Program advocating organic agriculture in 720 barangays in the province with 72,000 cooperators.
Grants were also given to some individuals who have made significant contributions to the province’s agriculture sector, especially the cacao industry.
