Gov’t bans fishing of Ludong starting this month
The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) will no longer allow the fishing of the high-value “ludong” fish starting October until November 15 as part of the implementation of BFAR Administrative Circular No. 247.
Under the circular, October to November has been declared as closed season on the catching of ludong.
The ban covers the entire stretch of the Cagayan River, including its tributaries, headwaters, and watersheds along with the Abra River as well as its tributaries traversing Ilocos Sur (Santa River) and the Cordillera region.
BFAR Regional Director, Dr. Milagros Morales, said law enforcement officers will be deployed to make sure the ban is observed.
The government is also scheduled to hold an intensified information, education, and communication campaign.
