Rick and Morty inspires McDonald’s to bring back its Szechuan Sauce for limited run
An episode of Adult Swim animated show Rick and Morty has inspired McDonald’s to bring back its Szechuan sauce for one day and one day alone.
The one day affair was inspired by the show’s reference to the sauce which was released by the fastfood giant in 1998 as a tie in to the Disney film Mulan. In the scene, lead character Rick raved about the sauce and later continued to rant about his craving for the sauce.
McDonald’s apparently understood series creator Justin Roiland’s plea and sent him a bottle of the special sauce after the episode aired. Still, the episode sparked a mass craving for the sauce which McDonald’s did not ignore.
The sauce will be available in selected stores in combination with McDonald’s Buttermilk Crispy Tenders on October 7 only. The menu item will normally be paired with nine sauce options – signature, honey mustard, spicy buffalo, tangy BBQ, sriracha mac, sweet and sour, hot mustard, creamy ranch and honey.
Unfortunately though, none of the branches listed are in the Philippines but who knows? We might be next. (ANGEL ONG)
