Strengthened agriculture ties Between Taiwan and PH sought
Lito Banayo, the head of the Manila Economic and Cultural Office. said he wants to see a strengthened relationship between the Philippines and Taiwan, especially on the side of agriculture.
In a column written by Rina Jimenez-David at the Philippine Daily Inquirer, she mentioned that Banayo is planning to build on Taiwan’s strengths in agribusiness, including bringing in Taiwanese agriculturists and farmers for some “technology sharing” with Filipino farmers.
According to Banayo, as cited by David, any visitor to Taiwan cannot but be impressed with the quality and quantity of its produce, from vegetables to fruits and even livestock and seafood.
This was all because of the widespread land reform that granted Taiwanese farmers ownership of farm lands.
Farmers were also provided training in the latest agricultural developments, access to credit and supplies, and support in transporting and marketing their products.
Basically, David said that Banayo envisions a touring seminar and training program among the different state-run universities and colleges here, with Taiwanese resource persons.
“This is something our Taiwanese friends can teach us,” said Banayo.
