Miss Malaysia to rock nasi lemak gown in Miss Universe pageant
Malaysia is well known for its traditional nasi lemak dish and now its bringing this dish to the international stage through the Miss Universe national costume event.
Malaysian designer Brian Khoo unveiled the design for his “nasi lemak” gown for Miss Universe contender Samantha Katie James.
The gown was painstakingly made for an entire month and has elements to represent the dish like sambal, anchovies, cucumber slices and a sunny side up egg. The entirety of the gown represents the rice in hand embroidered white rhinestones.
But wait, there’s more. To add authenticity to the design, Khoo added a pair of banana leaf wings to complement the gown. The design was unveiled at an event at a press conference Petaling Jaya. Way to celebrate your national dish, Malaysia! (ANGEL ONG)
