PH to be bird-flu free by year-end
The Department of Agriculture is expecting that the country will regain bird flu-free status before the year ends.
“Our target is to inform [World Organisation for Animal Health or OIE] by Dec. 20,” BAI Officer in Charge Ronnie D. Domingo was quoted in a Thursday news report.
“We will inform them that we have already conducted disinfection procedures and have controlled the movement of animals,” he added.
The OIE will recognize the country as bird flu-free if the country does not report of any new outbreaks within the 90-day period after the date of the last disinfection of affected areas, according to the BAI official.
The 90-day period ends Dec. 20, more than four months after the DA announced the first avian influenza outbreak in the country since decades.
