Piñol leaves investigation to DOLE after Japan recalls banana from PH
A day after it was reported that Dole Japan, Inc. has decided to recall 9,000 bunches of bananas from the Philippines, the Department of Agriculture (DA) refused to initiate some actions, leaving it for DOLE Philippines to investigate on.
“We will leave it all first to DOLE Philippines,” Piñol said. “It’s not a big deal actually”.
The Japanese firm announced the food recall on Wednesday, November 1, based on a news report by Kyodo, published by Japan Times.
The decision of DOLE Japan came after it allegedly found a wire of about three centimeters long in a banana that was shipped all the way to Japan from the Philippines.
The wire was discovered during a voluntary inspection at Dole Japan’s facility in Kawasaki City last Friday, Oct. 27, according to Kyodo.
Kyodo said the firm had reported the incident to authorities and believed that it was a case of food tampering by someone from the Philippines.
