Poultry sector, recovering from AI as chicken prices improve
Local poultry growers are slowly recovering from the post-avian influenza outbreak as farm-gate price of broiler continued to climb in the third week of October.
Citing data from the Bureau of Animal Industry, a Monday news report said farm-gate price of broiler as of Oct. 23 stood at P92.56 per kilogram, inching 0.53% from the P92.07 per kilogram recorded on Oct. 16.
The P92.56-per-kg farm-gate price was 68.08% higher than the P55.07 per kilogram logged in the comparable period in September
Although the bird flu outbreak in August — the first for the Philippines in decades –hit mostly commercial layers or egg-laying poultry, the farm-gate price of broilers which are chickens sold for meat was also disrupted as consumers panicked and shifted away from chicken and chicken products, altogether.
The highest recorded farm-gate price during the October reference period amounted to P94 per kilogram, while the lowest was at P91 per kilogram.
