Is McDonald’s looking to accept Bitcoin by next year?

Because of the rising popularity and reach of Bitcoin, even international franchises like McDonald’s may accept the cryptocurrency as a mode for payment as early as next year.

According to a report by Unilad, this is currently what admins at Betway, an online betting portal is projecting based on the odds that are posted on the site.

Based on the site, the fastfood giant is expected to accept the currency with a ½ odds by 2018. The same site also has the odds at 11/8 that Bitcoin will break $20,000 by next year.

Recent statistics have indicated that the currency has surpassed the value of even prime companies like IBM, Disney and yes, even McDonald’s.

In his interview with The Guardian, senior market analyst Neil Wilson at ETX Capital said that the upwards trajectory of Bitcoin stocks has no indication of slowing down in the near future and this represents for Bitcoin, a legitimacy as a trading tool.

“The legitimacy this gives Bitcoin as a tradeable asset is very important. The market cap of Bitcoin now exceeds that of IBM, Disney [or] McDonald’s…,” the trade expert said.

So, we’ll just have to wait and see how reliable Betway’s forecast is. In any case, 2018 is just around the corner. Hungry for McDo? Get your Bitcoins ready then. (ANGEL ONG)
