2017 agri exports from US, up 8.41%
U.S. agricultural exports last year totaled $140.5 billion, higher by $10.9 billion from the previous year, a value which is also pegged as the third-highest level on record.
“U.S. agriculture depends on trade. It is great to see an increase in exports and we hope to open additional markets to build on this success,” U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue said in a statement.
U.S. bulk commodity exports reached 159 million metric tons, up 11 percent from 2016 volume levels, while their value climbed 16 percent to $51.4 billion.
The surge in US exporgs was attributed to soybean shipments, which set a record 60 million metric tons, amounting to $24 billion.
China topped United States’ list ofcustomer, with orders valued at $22 billion, followed by Canada at $20.4 billion.
