Agri damage to Vinta reaches half a billion
Farm damage from Typhoon Vinta (international code name Tembin) has amounted to P538.26 million worth of crops and livestock, according to the Department of Agriculture (DA).
A memorandum the agency issued Tuesday showed that the typhoon has devastated 20, 246 hectares of agricultural lands.
In the note, Field Programs Operational Planning Division Chief Engr. Christopher V. Morales said that as of January 8, about 5,740 metric tons (MT) of crops in Regions 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13 were damaged by the typhoon.
The rice sector bore the brunt of the typhoon, with production losses totaling P235.25 million or nearly half of the total estimated damage from last month’s typhoon.
