Duterte administration should invest in ‘Food, Food, Food’ program
With more Filipinos to feed in the coming years, the government should increase the country’s agricultural productivity by investing more in research and development (R&D), according to former Agriculture Secretary William Dar.
“The Duterte administration should start pouring money into agricultural R&D to feed additional 40 million by 2045, to increase agricultural productivity,” Dar, who also serves as the founding president of InangLupa Movement, said.
“Complementing the Build, Build, Build program, the Duterte administration should consider bankrolling a ‘Food, Food, Food program,’” he added.
As of January 2018, the Philippines has a population of 105 million (M), according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
“Increasing the country’s agricultural productivity will not only produce enough food for every Filipino family, but more importantly reduce hunger and poverty particularly in the rural areas,” said Dar.
