MMDC conducts abaca and falcata planting workshops
Marcventures Mining and Development Corporation (MMDC) has organized a series of livelihood trainings from which farmers learned the intricacues of abaca and falcata planting.
A training and seminar on the effective management of falcata plantation was conducted in two phases where at least 26 farmers from the Cabangahan Falcata Plantation Livelihood Association benefited from the training.
MMDC also organized a training for some 33 abaca growers belonging to the Cabangahan Abaca Plantation Livelihood Association.
In a statement on Friday, the firm said the trainings aim “to build and strengthen the capacities of People’s Organizations (POs)” in its host and neighboring communities in Cantilan, Surigao del Sur.
Both workshops were funded from the company’s Social Development and Management Program which is funded, as mandated by law, about 1.5% of the previous year’s direct mining and milling cost for this.
