NFA eyes 250, 000 MT rice imports
The National Food Authority (NFA) is seeking to import 250, 000 metric tons (MT) as its stocks have gone down to a level that would suffice for less than a week.
NFA Spokesperson Rebecca Olarte said that the state-run grains agency is proposing to utilize its standby authority to ship in the volume.
Although national inventory of rice remains sufficient, the NFA’s stocks is well below its mandate to keep volume of its rice inventory good for 15 days at any given time.
The agency, late last year, expressed intent to ship in 350, 000 MT early this year.
