NFA Issues 13,456 Bags of Rice for the victims of Mayon Eruption
The National Food Authority (NFA) has already released an initial 13,456 bags of rice to various local government units, relief agencies, legislators and other institutions for distribution to the victims of the eruption of Mayon Volcano for relief operations.
According to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC), more than 80,000 individuals have been placed in evacuation centers after a series of eruptions of Mayon Volcano.
NFA Administrator Jason L.Y. Aquino said that the agency’s field offices in Region 5 are closely coordinating with local government units (LGU) and other relief agencies such as the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and Office of Civil Defense to ensure that their rice requirements are served.
“We have a standing Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with relief agencies such as the DSWD, Office of Civil Defense and LGUs for the supply of their rice requirements for relief operations during natural disasters, calamities and other emergencies,” said Aquino.
“Our Operations Center is open 24-hours to monitor the situation in the area and provide quick response to queries and accommodate LGUs, relief agencies and other institutions withdrawing their rice purchases for distribution to affected families,” he added.
Meanwhile, NFA market monitoring showed that the average prevailing rice prices in Albay remains at P38.00 per kilogram (kg) for Regular Milled rice and P40.00 per kg for Well Milled Rice.
NFA rice remains at P27.00 per kg for 25 percent brokens imported rice or regular milled local rice and P32.00 per kg for 15 percent brokens imported rice or well milled local rice.
