Two DENR officials relieved amid Zamboanga flashflood issue
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has relieved two officials from their post as Secretary Roy A. Cimatu seeks to reorganize the agency to ensure that the environmental degradation that triggered flash floods and mudslides in the Zamboanga Peninsula during Tropical Storm Vinta qould not happen again.
“Enough is enough. It’s not just because of command responsibility. We also want to know if there was negligence among my men,“ Envitonment chief Roy Cimatu said in a statement.
Cimatu said he will not hesitate to file charges against any DENR personnel found conniving with illegal activities, along with IFMA violators.
“This is not just a warning. We will do it,” the odficial added while directing DENR field officers nationwide to be more vigilant and strictly enforce the law against firms that are not complying with the DENR regulations.
