DA to launch rolling stores that will sell rice at P38 per kg
Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol said that starting Monday, two trucks of the Department of Agriculture (DA) loaded with at least 1,000 bags of rice in 5 and 10 kilo packs will be deployed to poor neighborhoods in Metro Manila to sell rice at P38 per kilo.
He said that DA Undersecretary for Agribusiness and Marketing Bernadette Romulo-Puyat will oversee the expanded operations of the Bigas ng Masa TienDA, which aims to directly link farmers to the consumers and bring down the prices of basic food commodities like rice.
This, after the Bigas ng Masa Program received a boost from a group of farmers who belong to the Star Capalay Association of Nueva Ecija who committed to deliver 500 bags of 25 kilos every week.
Led by their chairman, outstanding rice farmer Danilo Bolos of Talavera town, the group brought with them a truck loaded with 350 bags of 25 kilos which they wanted to sell in Metro Manila through the Bigas ng Masa TienDA.
Other farmers groups from Cagayan Valley and the Ilocos Region, including Pangasinan, have also committed to sell their rice through the Bigas ng Masa TienDA program.
