Liza’s sinigang tweet goes viral for a different reason
Kapamilya star Liza Soberano recently went viral over her Twitter post in defense of the cast of ABS CBN’s new fantasy serye Bagani for her use of “sinigang” to support her Filipino roots.
It can be recalled that netizens criticized the network for casting mestizo stars for a series that is set in Pre Colonial Filipino era and show’s need to use bronzers on the stars to disguise their fair skin. Some said that the network should have celebrated Filipino culture by casting stars who are 100 percent Pinoy for the show.
In a Twitter post that has since been taken down by the young star, she said that netizens should not be quick to judge the cast because of their foreign blood because they are as Filipino as one can get. Liza said that she was raised by Filipinos and love Filipino food (like sinigang) and culture just like those who are purely Filipino.
Critics took the opportunity to further hash out the issue by saying that the young star should not dismiss their concern with the use of sinigang while there were those who took the opportunity to defend the young star as well.
Oh sinigang, what have you done? (ANGEL ONG)
